Need to improve performance and reduce injuries? Come & Try YOGA 4 SPORT

Yoga 4 Sport

With Terri Baker, experienced Yoga Teacher and accomplished Marathon runner

TASTER SESSION

Friday 28th September at 7.30 pm – 8.30 pm at the Kikodo Centre

£10

 Who’s the class for?

Yoga4Sport is aimed at all sports people, at all levels including runners, cyclists, footballers, tri athletes, martial artists…In fact anyone who has a passion for their chosen Sport.

The focus of Yoga 4 Sport is on the physical body and will teach the following:

-Injury Prevention, developing body awareness, understanding how imbalances are created and using posture work to restore balance and energy.

-Rebalancing and alignment through posture work.

-Developing flexibility through posture work which releases tight, contracted and shortened muscles which result in impaired performance, poor energy efficiency, restricted range of motion in the joints and an increased risk of muscle, tendon injury.

Improving core strength through posture work and harnessing the yoga breath techniques which enhance core strength.

Poor core strength leads to imbalance in the body as other muscle groups seek to compensate, which might generate problems in the hips, knees and lower back. Yoga postures enhancing core strength will be practised which will strengthen muscles and tendons leading to stability in the joints and creating whole functional body strength.

Balance - Yoga leads to physical and mental balance. On a physical level the standing and balancing postures will strengthen the lower body, will draw awareness to any imbalance and hone your proprioception so you are more aware of your body in space.

The mental focus develops by concentrating on the posture and the breath to remain steady.

A little bit about Terri:

Terri is a fully qualified  British Wheel of Yoga Tutor , REPS registered, whose passion is both Yoga and running. She belongs to a running club and  is currently training for her second Marathon and practises Yoga daily to restore energy and balance & to prevent injury.

Aching arms and tight tums. Circuit training has started!

Personal trainer Claire Hayhurst spent Friday morning putting a small group of us through our paces at the first of the new circuit training classes. As the reassuring burn of lactic acid starts to fade I am already looking forward to next weeks session. Heres why:

  • A full body warm-up breaks you into the exercise gently and has you rearing to go.
  • The stations are only 30 seconds long!
  • An extensive variety of  equipment keeps the workout fresh and interesting.
  • Every exercise is adapted to suit your aims and ability.
  • You choose how hard you want to train but Claire is always on hand to encourage you to push “just one more”.
  • A ten minute core workout to finish targets the abs, legs and glutes and gives you a satisfying  burn that lets you know you are getting fitter.

For the rest of the Summer circuit training will remain as a drop-in class, so why not come and try it out on Fridays at 09:30.

See you there!

New Beginners Yoga Class on 14th June 2012!

Message from our lovely Yoga Teacher: Sarah Linsey

Just to let you know that I am definitely starting a new beginners yoga class at the Kikodo centre, Sevenoaks (just off St Johns Hill) after the half term in June.  It will be a five week course commencing on Thursday 14th June until Thursday 12th July and will run from 11am until 12.30pm.

The cost of each class is £10 payable in advance at the first class for the whole five weeks.  There may be the opportunity to pay a drop in rate if you cannot make all the dates but the fee for this will be £12 per class.

The class is suitable for beginners who have no previous experience of yoga, as well as those who have done some in the past and wish to return to it.  It will also be suitable for pregnant women who have had some previous experience of yoga.

The yoga I teach is gentle but energising with focus on the postures and working with the breath.  Eachclass finishes with a final relaxation giving the body a chance to absorb all the work that has been done.  As well as improving strength, flexibility and alignment in the body, the classes give a sense of well being and are very calming and relaxing.

Please let me know if you wish to book the course.  If you have any health issues you wish to discuss with me first please call me on any of the numbers below or send me an email.

For further information about my yoga please check out my website: www.slinseyyoga.co.uk or have a look on the Kikodo website: www.kikodo.co.uk
